About Us
Academy of Financial Literacy was started in 2006 by Phillip Day. Our mission statement sums up our financial beliefs as well as our goals:

"Our education mission is to motivate and influence all
who have the desire to learn about personal finances."

Phillip has an extensive background in the financial services industry. Starting in the finance department in the corporate world, Phillip became aware of the financial stress in people’s lives. Witnessing major corporations’ lack of empathy for their employees’ daily financial struggles, he saw the need for more basic, easy-to-understand financial education.

Later, while working in the insurance and investment industry, Phillip realized this industry was not about the wellbeing of their customers, but about product sales. He also came to the realization that many well-known financial media personalities were entertainers and book authors, and most have never really counseled people. This became a motivator to bring real information that truly impacts the daily lives of people and their finances. Being a financial counselor and public speaker for many years, as well as hosting a live financial radio show, motivated Phillip to write and self-publish several books on consumer finances. Phillip has trained financial counselors and counseled teachers, bank managers, CPAs, and many professionals from all walks of life. From this experience, he has developed a series of educational materials to help all who have the desire to learn.

Academy of Financial Literacy’s focus is on the basics of personal finance. Our intent is not to have all the answers, but to motivate, to influence change, and to be a valuable resource for you to learn how to implement the basics of financial literacy.
